There are many superb destinations in Italy and one of the best for a Summer break is Amalfi and combined with the Hotel Saraceno makes it the perfect holiday. This particular part of Italy has so much to offer without having to travel more than a few miles. My family have holidayed in the area for over forty years now and we never tire of the sights and beautiful coastline that the Neapolitan Riviera has to offer.

So there we were - 35 of us gathered at Heathrow Airport at 3am about to set off on the adventure of a lifetime. We were doctors, teachers, students, housewives and househusbands, charity workers, ambulance staff, chemists, yoga teachers, policemen - a real mixture. Our mission to walk the Andes in Peru at an altitude of 15,000 feet, for eight days. We had each raised £2500 for the charity, and that done it was time to walk. And walk. And walk!

Nothing can prepare you for the scale of the Qin Terracotta Army with its thousands of life size figures and horses - so beautifully crafted. We also had the opportunity of being some of the first foreign tourists to visit The Yangling Mausoleum of Emperor Jingdi.

Boston is so easy to get around -it is know as The Walking City and a stroll through Boston Common (the Cheers pub can be found here) takes you to some stunning houses in the historical district. There is also some stunning new architecture and the skyline can best be appreciated by taking a harbour cruise.

Leaving a cold, cloudy, Grey Britain at the end of September, its always nice when you walk off the plane to be greeted by a warm balmy breeze. As it was our first time in Madeira, and we had been told that the weather may not be what we wanted at that time of year, we were releived and pleasantly surprised by the temperature.

The holiday was enjoyable by its sheer decadence. Everything was done for you; taken to islands where the staff cooked on a BBQ and served cold iced drinks, shown the sights and taken to see giant tortoises.

My trip to Zambia was one of the best Holiday's of my life. The Zambian culture was an awesome experience and I really felt very welcome and accepted. My trip to a shanty town just outside of Chingola was a most memorable experience, images of the school and children will remain with me for a long time.
The scenery was stunning and you should not miss an early rise to see the sun emerging on the horizon, or a beautiful relaxing evening gazing at the colours that are cast across the sky at sunset.

The village of Dalyan is built along side the Dalyan Cayi river, that leads down to the sea. The whole area is steeped in history, with the Lycian tombs carved into the rock face overlooking the village and the Byzantine theatre nearby. The river winds its way though a delta that is teeming with wildlife; a film that some may recall ‘The African Queen’ was filmed within this delta. The beach area is idyllic, with smooth sloping sands into a relative shallow sea area.

Madeira is my favourite island. It is very picturesque with mountains, valleys, mini-canyon, interesting places. The accommodation is excellent, the food varied, interesting, and good, the people friendly.

This is an island that deserves to be visited at differing times of the year in order to enjoy and appreciate the accumulated collection of plants from around the world. My wife and I have had six holidays on the island to date and no doubt we will have many more as the contrasts and interest that this particular destination offer are many as they are varied.

This is the Sunshine Coast, known for its wacky inhabitants and slightly off-the-wall atmosphere. Visitors love the laid back lifestyle and friendly communities that reflect the history of the place.

This hotel is absolutely delightful. It's certainly not the cheapest but it really is worth the extra if you want to treat yourself. Set in walking distance from the hub of the town but far enough away to keep things quiet, the guest gets a feeling of palatial opulence when walking into the reception area.

Heron Island is the only island on the Great Barrier Reef where you stay actually on the reef itself - you can walk out onto the reef with the fish around your feet, and watch turtles hatching on the beach. This small island is all inclusive so no money needed - except for postcards or snorkelling lessons!

A tiny bubble on the underbelly of China, Hong Kong has undergone explosive development since being pinched by the British and turned into a trading outpost. Hong Kong’s role hasn’t changed much, even after the handover, and it remains one of the great trade centres of the world.

We flew out Christmas day on our ALL INCLUSIVE holiday. First thing that struck us was the white sandy beach (very robinson crusoe ). The Cubans are so friendly and work hard to make your holiday memorable. At night all you hear is the sound of the crickets and maybe the swishing of the palm trees.

The Lake District in winter is a UK Best-Kept Secret. Gone are the hoards of tourists. Instead you have clear frosty mornings, sunny days, showers carefully timed to send you into the nearest coffee shop for elevenses , moody clouds and snow-capped hills that have a way of calling to your deepest emotions. Many places in the Lakes are open all year round, and the log or coal fires glowing in the grates of most inns reminded us of by-gone days.

Absolutely out of this world. We married whilst in Vegas and decided to have a drive thru wedding which was an experience neither of us will forget and one to tell the grandchildren. Tacky yes but a fantastic night. We spent hours visiting the casinos and hotels along the strip, some of which have fairground rides, half size models of the Eiffel Tower and replica New York Streets to name but a few. A fantastic buzzing place and one that I want to re-visit.

Las Vegas Circus Circus Hotel, United States
There were so many things that made the holiday enjoyable - the friendly service you get in the USA is second to none, Belagio's fountain and the helicopter ride over Vegas at night and the thrill of playing on mega million dollar jackpot machines! Although I didn't win a mega jackpot I did manage to win a couple of smaller jackpots on a video poker machine with a Royal Flush and also a Keno(Bingo) machine. Las Vegas has it all, it's a great starting point for a west coast adventure.

You really can’t go wrong for weather when considering a winter holiday in the Canary Islands, particularly as the travelling time is about four hours and the temperature during December-March is usually in the mid seventies. The Canaries are on the same latitude as Florida, so you can expect similar weather conditions without the distance of travel.

Madrid itself has plenty to keep you occupied for more than a week itself and I look upon this holiday as an opportunity to get a feel of the area in order to return at a later stage and spend more time at your places of interest. With this in mind I would highly recommend the first day walk about in Madrid as you get to find out where all the main sights are to be found, including restaurants, gardens and museums.

Day 6 took us to the great lakes and the Niagara Falls - an experience I’ll never forget. We boarded a ‘Maid of the Mist’ boat, which took us right up to the base of the mighty Horseshoe Falls. New York is such an experience. It has so much character, and so may places to go to - to see the sights and to eat. You could go back time and time again, and never be bored. It also feels very safe walking around, as there are many police everywhere, and you start to feel like a native after just a day or two there.

Jamaica, one of the most alluring of the Caribbean islands, lives as a tourist brochure cliché of tropical scenery and shimmering beaches. Rajasthan in the north west of India is large, about 700 km by 700 km, much of it arid. The attractions for us were the temples, Maharaja’ palaces and ancient hill fortresses and the people - many of the villagers were in the most vibrant colours with gold and silver jewellery.

Having visited the island several times we have fallen in love with the place. The people are friendly and what is amazing is that they remember you. There is lots to do, lots to visit and yet you will always find something new. It is wonderfully under-lively, which keeps our booze-culture away, making it the ideal haven to relax.

Rooms either have a park view or a sea view. We had a sea view and it was just as well or I would have stayed in my room all day gazing out! Simple, clean accomodation. Smart and polite staff who very much let the hotel setting speak for itself. Food simple, lots of fresh fish and salads, fresh vegetables and pasta with simple clean tasting sauces.
