Travelogue
The holiday was based around Boston but it took in
the famous town of Salem, scene of the Witch Trail
Hysteria and ended up with a visit to a casino in Connecticut. Boston is so easy to get around -it is know as The Walking City and a stroll through Boston Common ( the Cheers pub can be found here ) takes you to some stunning houses in the historical district. There is also some stunning new architecture and the skyline can best be appreciated by taking a harbour cruise - which also takes you under the flight path into Logan and having a 747 come in overhead is a great experience. Sadly, one of the tallest buildings in Boston, the Hancock Tower, is not open to the public but another of the tall buildings, The Prudential, is and the views from the top are excellent. If your feet get tired then you can always take the 'T' - a ride out to Harvard Square is recommended to see the college buildings and a visit to the North End is recommended if you like Italian as there are so many restaurants and pastry shops to choose from there. From Boston we travelled slightly north to see Salem. A town that thrives on it witch history, there are plenty of museums and old houses to see - just be careful crossing the roads in case a tour hearse is coming along. In the evening we went on a candlelit guided walk which was entertaining and great fun. To finish off the holiday we travelled an hour and a half south into Connecticut to the Mohegan Sun casino. This is operated by the Mohegan tribe and the casino ( with hotel, shops, bars and restaurants ) is superbly decorated in Native American style - sitting at a bar in front of a 55 foot waterfall INSIDE was an awesome experience. |
