Travelogue One of three 'gites' in the grounds of a chateau, this is a converted water mill complete with its own mill race. It lies an hour from the Channel ports and Tunnel in a little known area called 'The Seven Valleys'.
With three bedrooms, bathroom, shower room, two loos, sitting and dining room it also has a kitchen equiped with everything you would find at home - even a toaster and kettle, both of which are curiosities in France.

There is TV, video amnd DVD player, a wood burner, BBQ and sandpit all alongside a trout river.
Baron de Hauteclocque and his wife speak English and the countryside is Kent/Dorset with frogs legs. Locally, there are 'estraminets' which are the nearest the French have to a real pub - a range of less common beers, 'pub' food and games.
All this for just over £200 p.w ( NOT per person ) peak season.

Must See Attractions

  • All the local rivers/valleys
  • Hesdin, a medieval nearby town
  • Montreuil, also nearby but rather trendy
  • Le Touquet, an hour away, "Paris-by Sea" if you miss Chelsea.
  • Various beaches 30+ min away

Eating Out

  • About a dozen seafood places in Le Crotoy at the mouth of the Somme.

Fab Tips

  • Sheets can be hired.
  • Not so easy to obtain currency as in the middle of countryside but local Post Office is as good as any for obtaing Euros before you go - you won't need much anyway.
  • Pack baked beans if you must but otherwise enjoy the local foods.
  • There are two visiting bakers but remember that French bread gets hard quickly so some supermarket sliced is a good reserve.
  • Fresh (as opposed to long-life) milk is only available at some local supermarkets.
