Travelogue Heron Island is the only island on the Great Barrier Reef where you stay actually on the reef itself - you can walk out onto the reef with the fish around your feet, and watch turtles hatching on the beach. This small island is all inclusive so no money needed - except for postcards or snorkelling lessons! There is only one small hotel and and research station, so its easy to find a beach to yourself with white fine sand and turquoise sea - truly a paradise set in a nature reserve in a non-tourist and purely beautiful island.

If someone said where in the whole world would you go it is here - nature and beauty truly combined.

Fab Tips

  • Be sure to take the helicopter over to the island - the view alone is worth every penny, and the seas can be choppy!
