Accommodation Hotel Melia Cayo Guillermo. Rooms spotlessly clean daily and air conditioning add to the comfort. Maids leave towels in shapes of animals (swans) and other gifts. We tipped them a dollar a day (average wage in Cuba is $20 per month!)
Food is excellent with fish a high point. Plenty of lobster and various locations around the hotel to eat (even on the beach!).

Travelogue We flew out Christmas day on our ALL INCLUSIVE holiday. First thing that struck us was the white sandy beach (very robinson crusoe ). The Cubans are so friendly and work hard to make your holiday memorable. At night all you hear is the sound of the crickets and maybe the swishing of the palm trees. The hotel is comparable with a UK 5 STAR.

Most people on holiday there are either Canadian, English or German (grab your sun lounger by the pool early!) although ther's plenty of room on the beach nearby.
If you are looking for a relaxing warm sunny holiday at Christmas, you won't go wrong with Cuba.

Christmas is in their summer so no hurricanes to worry about and excellent weather.

Must See Attractions

  • Drive your own speed boat through the mangroves.
  • all day private cruiser trip and see some dolphins.

Fab Tips

  • Take US dollars with you as the Cubans can use this currency.
  • You will need money for tips (maybe a dollar a time) and there are a few shops at the hotel for clothes/cigars etc.
  • Take with you some soap bars and shampoos to leave the maid as they find these items hard to get and are very expensive as all are imported.
  • Pay for trips with a credit card (must not be an american card of any type!)
  • Avoid calls back home as still very expensive. Better to book time on the hotel computer and email everyone.
